The Dragon Skin Pavilion is an architectural installation designed and built for the 2011-12 Hong Kong & Shenzhen Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture. The structure challenges and explores the spatial, tactile, and material possibilities that architecture can offer by revolutions in digital fabrication and manufacturing technology. It inspires passers-by to reimagine the space we live in today if tomorrow’s technologies are combined with industries present in this region – “made in Hong Kong”, and later “made in China”. The installation is a highly experimental temporary structure designed from 163 unique pieces of post-formable plywood, a brand new and environmentally friendly material.

The Cement Factory was discovered in 1973, it was an abandoned cement factory and partially in ruins, comprised of over 30 silos, underground galleries and huge engine rooms; Ricardo Bofill bought it and began renovation works. He identified the program; The Cement Factory was to be used as architectural offices, archives, a model laboratory, and exhibition space, an apartment for him, as well as guest rooms and gardens.

Cleveland State University’s new College of Education and Human Services building toes a fine line of contemporary formalism and unrefinement that allows it to achieve a boldness its counterpart, the new student center by Gwathmy Siegel, can’t fathom. Where the new student center is detailed clumsily with awkward adjacencies and misalignments, Julka Hall is sharp and restrained; making up for what it lacks in formal clarity with quality of space and natural light.

Reinier de Jong, Rotterdam-based designer, has designed this bookcase consisting of five parts, which slide in and out of each other to accommodate books in the resulting voids. Simply the more books, the bigger bookcase. Dimensions are 192 x 222 (max) x 36 cm. The outside of REK bookcase  is finished with white high gloss laminate. The inside is finished with another type of laminate, in this case warm grey satin (other colours on request). You can find it in the Dezeen Book of Ideas as well.
